Hi Reader, April 2016. I started Crown Management with more belief than blueprint and I had no idea what the next ten years would actually look like. I was an artist manager then. A year after the pandemic, everything shifted. Crown shifted. I pivoted into project and operations management for entertainment and business, and something clicked into place that I didn’t have language for yet. Now, ten years in, I do. Here are the three things this decade taught me: 1. The best leaders are the best servants. This one took time to really land. We talk a lot about leadership, the vision, the authority, the decision-making. But what actually made me better at all of it was learning how to serve. Genuinely. Without conditions. I’ve been chosen to serve, and I am grateful for that calling every single day. It’s not a burden. It’s the greatest privilege of my career. 2. Purpose won’t let you quit. I won’t sugarcoat it at all! There were real moments where I tried to walk away from Crown. Close it down. Move on. Maybe get a 9-5 and let this whole entrepreneur thing go. But it never worked out that way. Every time I tried to leave, something pulled me back. What I know now is that’s not stubbornness that’s purpose and great calling. When you are genuinely called to something, it holds onto you even when you try to let go. I have been destined and called to the road of entrepreneurship, and that is something I will never regret. 3. Knowing yourself means you choose better. The more I’ve grown into who I actually am, the better my decisions have become — in business, in partnerships, in the rooms I walk into and the ones I choose to leave. Self-knowledge isn’t a soft skill. It’s a strategy. As I’ve changed, Crown has changed with me, and that alignment is what has made the business stronger. Ten years. Three lessons. One company that refused to be given up on. Happy Birthday, Crown. You’re 10. Time to make it to 20. 🖤 Rachael |
